Chronology

He was born into the Serbian family of the Orthodox priest Milutin Tesla and his wife Georgina - Djuka Tesla, nee Mandic. The village of Smiljan, near Gospic (today in the Republic of Croatia), was, at that time, part of the Military border zone (referred to in Lika as the Military Krajina), a separate administrative unit of the Hapsburg Monarchy under the Emperor Joseph I.
